The NMPA issued a notice called “the Establishment of Medical Robotics Standardization Agency” on September 27. This is announcing the regulatory preparation for medical robotics.
The agency is responsible for the formulation and revision of industry standards for medical robotics such as terminology, classification, and basic common technologies.
The first expert committee is composed of 60 members, including those from overseas manufacturers such as Siemens, Medtronic, Stryker and Johnson & Johnson.
Significance of NMPA Medical Robotics Development
Medical robotics refer to robotics used in hospitals, clinics and other medical scenarios or auxiliary medical care. China introduced surgical robotics in 2014 and developed significantly in the space of cardiovascular and orthopedics surgical use.
The integration of new technologies such as 5G and artificial intelligence with medical robotics has accelerated. The perception ability of medical robotics will be much stronger in China. With the technological and societal development, medical robotics have broad usage in China.
