At present, artificial intelligence technology is increasingly mature and permeates all walks of life, among which the deep collection of artificial intelligence and medical treatment has brought new changes to the medical related industries. At the 2018 Medical Artificial Intelligence Research Institute Forum, experts and scholars shared their unique insights, research results, and mature products in AI and medical device field.
The application scenarios of medical artificial intelligence are mainly shown in virtual assistant, medical imaging, auxiliary diagnosis, disease risk prediction, drug mining, health management, hospital management, and auxiliary medical research report. Among them, medical imaging and disease risk management are the two most popular application scenarios.
- Medical Imaging
Many experts in the forum shared the innovative changes brought by artificial intelligence for medical imaging diagnosis. They used image recognition technology, big data analysis and deep learning to identify the images of patients and improve the efficiency and accuracy of diagnosis. At present, the application of artificial intelligence in the field of medical imaging mainly includes three categories: lesion screening, target area delineation, and image three-dimensional reconstruction.
Screening of lesions: The lesion database is established based on the accumulation, classification and analysis of large databases. Lesions of medical images such as X-ray, CT, and MRI are automatically identified through the database system, which greatly improves the efficiency of imaging doctor diagnosis and helps doctors discover early lesions that are difficult to find and judge with the naked eye.
Delineation of the target area: Tumor target area delineation and treatment design will take up a lot of time and effort of the doctor. Each patient has about 200 to 450 CT images. The organs and tumor location need to be marked on each image. The traditional methods will take doctors several hours. Artificial intelligence can automatically delineate the target area of hundreds of CT images when the radiotherapy plan is formulated. Radiologist can then make the correction and inspection, which greatly shortens the delineation time.
3D Image reconstruction: Automatically reconstructs the real 3D model of organs, enabling the doctor to directly observe the anatomical details of the patient’s real human body structure in the virtual space through the device, and perform real-time stereo analysis of organs and lesions to accurately measure the structure, location, volume and other parameters.
